Region of Peel Waste & Recycling Carts - A Comprehensive Overview
The Region of Peel provides waste management cart collection services to the cities of Mississauga and Brampton, as well as the Town of Caledon. These services are designed to streamline waste diversion across the region. Waste collection services for these carts are handled by Emterra Group (emterra.ca) and Waste Connections of Canada (wasteconnectionscanada.com).
Unlike Front-End Bins, carts operate on a bi-weekly collection schedule (e.g., Week 1: Garbage and organics are collected, Week 2: Recycling and organics are collected). Residents can choose to receive weekly waste reminders by email, text message, or phone call.

Cart Design
Peel's waste management program uses 3 types of carts, each distinguished by colour:
- Garbage Carts: These carts feature a standard grey-colored lid and are used for waste.
- Recycling Carts: These carts feature a blue lid and are used for recyclable items only.
- Organics Carts: These carts are completely green in colour and are intended for organic waste. They are equipped with a locking mechanism on the lid to prevent access by animals.
History & Manufacturing
The Region of Peel previously used a blue box program for recycling but later transitioned to a cart-based system in 2015. The new carts, designed by IPL (iplglobal.com), were distributed to residents as part of this change.
